Play It Again
It's much easier to get funding to commission a new piece than to play something that has already been written, but that means many new orchestral compositions are played only once and then shelved forever. This makes it very difficult to establish any momentum as an orchestral composer.
The Central Ohio Symphony's innovative "Play It Again" project is designed to support emerging orchestral composers. It allocates grant funds to play deserving works from under-represented composers that have received their premiere but have yet to get a second performance.
During the 2024-2025 season, the Play it Again project will present Fiesta no. 2 by Sonia Morales in October, Bravado by Gala Flagello in March, and NaamJei by Andrea Reinkemeyer in April.
