Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3
Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue
Michael Chertock, piano
Gershwin American in Paris
Double concertos and the return of pianist Michael Chertock from Cincinnati! His last appearance demonstrated his wonderful artistry and he returns with two concertos, the Rachmaninoff Third Piano Concerto, considered by many to be the hardest piano concert written (some say it is "to be feared"), and the endearing Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. The concert will also feature Gershwin's American in Paris. The last time we paired two Gershwin works on a program, it was sold out! Mark your calendars now for this date!

"Becoming American" This concert will cap a week of community engagement far beyond the concert hall. Headlining the program is the Ohio premier of Ellis Island, The Dream of America. Seven actors portray the experiences of immigrants from Poland, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Ireland and Russia as recorded in the Ellis Island Oral History Project. Period photographs capture individual faces alternately worn, fearful or exuberant, upon arriving at the gateway to the "Land of Opportunity". It is one of the most popular symphonic works with more than 140 performances by 60 orchestras. We also explore the many cultures of America through music by African American, Native American, Asian and Hispanic composers.
Two identical concerts filled with holiday spirit, the season's favorite music, this year with a new twist. Dwight Lenox, a central Ohio singing favorite joins both the Symphony and Young Strings as our guest artist. Dwight has a wonderful voice reminicient of Nat King Cole and this will be his first performance with a symphony orchestra! He will perform with the Young Strings as well. Make this concert part of your Holiday celebration this season.
